Project Overview
A client relocating to the UAE sought a versatile adventure motorcycle capable of handling desert terrains and long-distance travel. After deliberation, we selected the Husqvarna 701 Enduro as the base model for this custom build, aiming to enhance its capabilities with auxiliary fuel tanks, a navigation tower, robust engine protection, and other essential modifications to craft a superior adventure bike. So the Husqvarna 701 Enduro Rally ADV Build started
Build Objectives
Enhanced Fuel Capacity: Integrate auxiliary fuel tanks to extend the bike's range, essential for traversing vast desert landscapes.
Navigation Enhancements: Install a reliable navigation tower to aid in orientation during long rides.
Engine Protection: Equip the bike with a durable skid plate to safeguard the engine against rough terrains.
Maintain OEM Integrity: Ensure all modifications are compatible with the bike's original equipment manufacturer (OEM) specifications, allowing for straightforward installation without significant alterations.
Modifications and Components
1. Auxiliary Fuel Tanks
Design and Fitment: We adapted KTM 690 Enduro fuel tanks to fit the Husqvarna 701 frame without necessitating relocations or modifications. This approach preserved the bike's structural integrity and OEM setup.
Capacity and Materials: The tanks provide an additional 14 liters of fuel capacity (7 liters per side) and are constructed from multi-layer carbon fiber reinforced with vinylester, offering resistance to fuel-related degradation.
Fuel Delivery System: Equipped with a Dakar-tested KEIHIN fuel pump, the system allows for seamless integration with the rear tank, offering options for single or dual-pump configurations to manage fuel consumption effectively.
2. Navigation Tower
Design and Features: The aluminum navigation tower comes pre-assembled with brackets for the OEM speedometer and provisions for additional GPS devices. It fits directly onto the bike using a CNC-machined headstock bracket, ensuring stability and ease of installation.
Lighting System: Integrated HELLA street-legal lights housed within an OEM KTM mask and stone guard provide optimal illumination and protection during night rides.
3. Skid Plate (Engine Guard)
Material and Construction: Crafted from carbon fiber reinforced with aramid (Kevlar), the skid plate offers robust protection without excessive weight, essential for defending the engine against impacts during off-road excursions.
4. Seat
Comfort and Design: The seat features comfort foam with a rally pocket in the front, and the seat pan is made of Carbon Kevlar, providing durability and rider comfort during long journeys.
Conclusion
This comprehensive build transformed the Husqvarna 701 Enduro into a formidable adventure motorcycle, tailored to meet the client's specific needs for durability, extended range, and navigational support in challenging desert environments.
